In the whole history of the Abbekerk there are still some mysteries and questions.
In general
- I’m looking for pictures taken on board, of convoys she sailed in and picture of harbours (esp. Oosthaven, Singapore and Tjilatjap 1942) on which she may be visible.
- Also I would like to get in contact with (family of ) people who sailed on of have seen Abbekerk during the war.
- Any information about her cargo on the different routes.
- Any information about the AA-guns, anti submarine gun and especially the depthcharches she carried.
–
About unknown routes:
- I have very limited information about Abbekerk’s routes before the war (1939). Any info here would be appreciated.
- In the second part of 1941 Abbekerk sailed around the globe, from England to Suez as part of WS.8Z, but the rest of the trip – Dutch East Indeas, Panama Canal and Carabean she sailed independently back to England. My dad “forgot” this whole trip in his memoires and I am struggeling to get more information about this trip and about her cargo.
–
About the periode around the fall of Singapore and Java:
- What date did Abbekerk leave Singapore to Oosthaven and what were her orders?
- Why to Oosthaven when all other ships sailed to Batavia and Palembang?
- Did she take evacueees from Singapore and/or Oosthaven?
- SOLVED: Any information about the British gunners aboard Abbekerk that left the ship in Oosthaven?
–
About her first sinking in Albert Dock in september 1940:
- What date was Abbekerk refloated?
- What dock/shpyard did the repairs?
- Any information about the repairs that toke half a year?
–
About the ship
- Building drawings of Abbekerk (or her sistership Arendskerk and near sister Amerskerk/Coburg). I’m would like to make a model of Abbekerk but need detailed information and drawings of her before I even consider starting.
